Ripl: social marketing in the fast lane

Remember when posting a photo and a caption did the trick on Facebook? Video publishing in Facebook continues to grow by 75% each year, signalling that we (the collective audience) are gobbling up fresh, motion-based content with both virtual hands.

I recently introduced a client to Ripl so that he could easily generate updates for his social media marketing (Facebook and Instagram) that had a little more oomph. After trying it once, his reservation was that he had to re-enter the information (title and description) into the Ripl app each time… when I asked what the alternative was, he mentioned he uses the same photo in Facebook each week, and simply cuts and pastes the text with changes. I proposed that what he was publishing was “wallpaper” (ie; content that viewers progressively ignore) — he soon changed his perspective and now quickly cranks out customised animations in a heartbeat, keeping his social media fresh!

Ripl taps into two key concerns for marketers — impulse and impact.

So what I love about Ripl (apart from it being freemium), is that it taps into two key concerns for marketers — impulse and impact. The impulse is about reducing the drag on the resources (your time) required to crank out a dynamic video promotion (it should be quick and easy!), and as we know, anything with a little motion and colour, that plays automatically in our timeline without having to click for more information, will always help to capture attention (which needless to say, is a rare commodity in social media).

So the free version of Ripl lets you crank out a quick update with flair — it can be shared directly to all your related services (like a Facebook Page and Instagram account), along with a caption and hashtags if necessary.

More importantly, if you are paying extra coin for an “expert” to handle these tasks for you, then pocket the cash and delegate it to junior staff, if not yourself ;)

So… the paid version — $15 per month seems a bit pricey (two or so schooners) but it does allow more than two images in each animation and inclusion of your logo, along with access to 200 animation styles. So my recommendation is get started with the free version and when you eventually need more options, switch up.

Oh… the paid version also allows you to download the file — from there you can simply bump it to your Google Drive or Dropbox account so that it is then live throughout your venue via Autom8tv.

Quick tip: if a few minutes is still too long for your repeating promotions, then create a generic design design in Ripl (minus any of the specifics that may change), and publish it to Instagram. Delete the post from instagram, but you will then have the animation available to re-use as required — just add the event specifics in the Instagram caption. Better still, sync your Instagram account to your Facebook Page so you can kill two social birds ;)
