The Hydra is infamous for it’s many heads, our heroes who fought this monster quickly found out that if you chop one of their heads off two more grow back. In some of the stories, they say that the head in the very middle cannot be harmed by any weapons and the Hydra is immortal as one beast.

The Hydra is often remembered because of the twelve labors of Hercules. For Hercules to defeat the beast, he asks for the help of his cousin Lolaus. This was a team effort for both of these men, as Hercules cut off each mortal head Lolaus followed his lead and made sure that the heads wouldn’t grow back. When only the immortal head was left, Hercules severed the head from the beast and buried it beneath a large rock. The Hydra is the offspring of Typhon and Echidna.

A depiction of the Hydra in it’s habitat, it originates from the lake.
