A Habit is a behavior that is been repeated so many times, it becomes automatic.

Atomic Habits by James Clear

Before diving into those three lessons you should first know what is the purpose of building a habit.

The purpose of building a habit is to solve a reoccurring problem.

and in order to do that you’ll need the following 3 steps:-

  1. Focus on Building Systems.

The most common mistake that we often do is we focus on setting a goal rather than building system.

“Winners and losers have the same goals.”

Focus on changing habits instead of creating goals because a goal is a one time win but with right habits losing becomes very hard, if you don’t follow this then, after you have accomplished your goal you’ll be same as before.

2. Goals Restrict Happiness.

When a goal is set happiness is restricted until that goal is achieved.

this creates a cycle where even if you have done something remarkable you’ll never be happy rather you’ll start worrying more.

Restricting happiness to goals will make us more vulnerable to failure.

3. Habits Shape Your Identity.

The most effective way to change your habit is to change your identity.

“Your goal is not to read a book rather changing your identity to someone who reads book”.

In order to change your identity you’ll need a 2 step process:-

First, decide what type of person you want to be.

and then, prove it to yourself with small wins.
