How To Be More Creative.

This is a very backwards, unique way to become more creative. That is your disclaimer. Depending on the industry you work in, we all hit a wall when it comes to obtaining new clientele, creating new content or express yourself in a new light. We feel the source has been tapped out and that is discouraging! So our creativity is compromised. Luckily, I have a few ideas to catapult you through the goalposts of life. These are tactics are tried and true, but may not be for everyone!
- Reality Bubble- I heard this amazing podcast by NPR’s Invisiblia. To summarize, they state that everyone lives in a reality bubble. You wake up, go buy the same coffee, go to your same work, sit at same desk, talk to the same people- same, same, same. No wonder you’ve hit a wall with your creativity! Try to mix up your day a little bit? When you leave your house, go left instead of right. Jump on the 4 train, instead of the 2. This can stir up your creative juices and either you meet new people or think a little bit differently.
- Dimensional Thinker- Not everything is at face value. There could be value into looking a little bit deeper, or in a new perspective. Put yourself in the other person’s shoes, or if you’re chatting with a 5 year old or alien. The fact is- you THINK and speak differently when communicating. With my psychology background, people are constantly saying, “why didn’t I think of that?!” Personally, I look for the root of things, the origin and come up with new perspectives that way.
- Read or Watch- If you read books or even watch Netflix, I’m sure you flock to the same section. For me? It’s nonfiction and documentaries, weee! I actually got this idea while I was in Argentina. I was spending a lot of time alone in parks and was like, “I need a book.” I trekked to the El Ateno and picked out the only book they had in English. Erotica! That’s new one for me, but definitely not the last. I parked myself in a park, next to a cemetery and read it from cover to cover. It actually inspired me to write one when I’m older and more experienced. Throw your habits a curve ball.
- Sign up on Tinder- This is one that not everyone could/would do. But the reason why I added it is, wow. I have met some really interesting people on there. If it’s because of shyness, location, neighborhood, type of venue- tinder disregards that and two, unique minds join together and newness. Perfection! My personal love is to sign into Tinder in different countries and mingle with the locals.
- Travel to ___- Exactly. So there’s an app called “Skyscanner” and it changed my life. I no longer plan vacations. I let it plan for me. How it works is you ask off from your job for x amount of days. You type in NYC (or where ever you live) to “everywhere”, one way ticket on x date. Then take the cheapest ticket to Europe? Once there, a few days later, pick your destination to everywhere again and start bouncing around. It’s actually super cheap, you’ll be pleasantly surprised.
- Mindshift- I am a tall, blonde, athletic, recruiter-human by day. But a proper mindshift would be acting like somebody completely different. A German, Rock climbing, Neuroscientist Vagabond. Yes. Free your mind. This is meant to be fun and slide into character.
I hope this can alter your current brain flows and allow in some new, fun adventures. Thank you for reading.
