Interaction Design

Design Process
For this activity, I designed a prototype for an app that will collect altitudes, images, and textual descriptions of different plants from users around King County. This process began during studio where as a group we all brainstormed different ideas for different aspects of the design.
Individually, I first started by outlining how the navigation of my app would work. I decided to use a list menu in which users click through categories until they reach their end destination. I chose this approach because I felt it was the best way to organize the different features within the app. Once I had a completed outline, I then designed the interface screens and uploaded them to the app POP. Once in POP, I created links between the different screens in order to create my prototype. Once my prototype was created, I recorded a 90 second demo video using it to explain some of my choices as a designer and demonstrate how it works.

Reflection
While working on this project, I found myself wondering whether or not the navigation type I decided to use would be universally acceptable to users. Different designs merit different reactions from different people — what seems logical to one might not be logical to all. If I had more time, something I would have liked to do is design multiple prototypes and survey an audience about which one is the easiest to navigate. A problem I encountered was having too many features I wanted to include. Because of this, I had to make sure that each interface screen didn’t have too much information as to not overwhelm users.
Experience
For this project, I enjoyed designing the prototype. I enjoyed this because similar to last week, I knew my target users and was able to design something I feel they would understand and be able to use with ease. Additionally, I enjoyed exploring my more creative side with deciding what features should be a part of the app and deciding how it should look.
