Appropriately nicknamed Motor City, Detroit, Michigan is a diverse city famed for its distinctive Motown Music, historical automotive influence, art, and legendary Detroit Style Pizza. Heavily influenced by various ethnic backgrounds, the heart of Motor City is a significant cultural center with its very own Greektown, Mexicantown, and Asian Village.
Located on Detroit’s East side, Buddy’s Rendezvous was the birthplace of Detroit-style pizza, first created in 1946 by Pizza maker Gus Guerra. Detroit Style Pizza is truly unique to the city it was invented in, being baked in steel pans borrowed from local automotive plants, a crispy, cheesy, decadent pie was born. Now, almost a century later, this wildly popular pizza is enjoyed all over the world.
A Detroit Style pizza is easy to spot, with its iconic squared- shape, crunchy cheesy exterior, and signature stripes of sauce on top. Buddy’s Rendezvous, now known as Buddy’s, is still rolling out its signature pie over 75 years later, with numerous locations all over Michigan.
