Unfinished projects & happy days

Theo was taking great naps for several weeks, so I thought I would embark on a project. I can never find any bibs that I like for him that are waterproof and he’s a drooler, so I thought that I might as well make some. I started the project on Super Bowl Sunday, the same day that Theo decided to nap strike. I have thus far made one bib.

Bib model. But so many bibs left to make…

I try to make sure that Theo spends a lot of time playing on the floor every day. It’s the way that he gets tired and it’s so important for his development. Plus, he loves it. Tucker likes to keep him company on the floor and he and Sasha are always waiting for Theo to have spits so they can help clean them up.

Cool dude in the bath-sink. He usually gets baths in the bathtub with me, but we wanted to see if he would still fit in the sink. Conclusion: not really.

My parents came for a visit and we had a lovely time. With Theo changing so much all the time, it’s hard to be far away from family. I wish that I could just run over and show them what his new tricks are all the time.

The trip can be summed up in three sentences: We ate morning buns. We took a quick day trip to the Antelope Valley. We fed Theo sweet potatoes for the first time.

In a couple weeks, these fields will be filled with orange poppies. Below are Joshua Trees in bloom.

Sweet Potatoes & Theo

Though I was in no hurry to start solid foods with Theo, he’s been giving us signs that he’s ready. So a couple weeks back, I ordered a book (on the recommendation of my registered dietitian cousin, Alicia) about introducing food to baby. The recipes are great and it’s beautiful too — always helpful when thinking about making food. Introducing solids is another one of those things that I really wanted my parents to be part of and I’m pretty sure they were just as excited or more excitied about him trying solids than Justin and I were.

We roasted some sweet potatoes in the oven and then my dad scooped them out and pureed them. I mixed it with a bit of breastmilk and we put Theo in his booster seat. I held out the spoon with some sweet potato and he opened his mouth immediately. The first bite, he assessed the texture and then quickly started grunting for more. He was eating like a pro by bite number 3, with almost all the sweet potato being swallowed.

He did put his hands by his mouth and they got sweet potato on them too. The dogs took pleasure in helping him clean his hands. Now (4 days into solids), any time that I feed Theo, the dogs sit one on each side waiting to catch anything that might fall and waiting to clean Theo’s hands if need be. They are so faithful. Especially when there is food involved. ☺

Sweet potatoes!
