Duckworth-Lewis-Stern method
Those who are familiar with cricket should have heard about Duckworth-Lewis-Stern method or simply DLS method. It is name after an English Mathematician, it is a mathematical formulation of revising the target score for second batting team in case of reducing the number of overs in limited over cricket (ODI or T-20).
This method takes total number of balls remaining and total number of wickets in hand as assets which will be converted to runs by both the teams. It considers the historical data of score for various stages of game, in which later parts of game are seen as more scoring when there are wickets in hand. So, in this method wickets are considered more valuable than balls remaining.
This method has been in controversy historically, as when it is anticipated that it would rain, second team can easily win the game just by retaining the wickets even if they score much lesser run rate the required.
