What did you do this past week?
This past week, I had a computer networks exam that I had to study a lot for. I had been a little behind in the class, so I had some catching up to do. Thankfully, the exam went well, and it wasn’t nearly as bad as I was expecting. I also had some online government modules over the course of the week, and I finished part 1 of my information retrieval project. It wasn’t too bad, as it only involved making a simple website with 5 links to the course pages of UT CS classes I enjoyed.

What’s in your way?
One of our data sources for our software engineering project put a blocker on their site, so we have to stick to our cached data since we can’t pull from the website anymore. We don’t anticipate it to be a huge problem, thankfully. We just need to work on the filtering, searching, and sorting.

What will do you next week?
I have to work on part 2 of my information retrieval project, which involves editing the basic website we made last week. I also have a government test on Tuesday, which I need to study for. The next software engineering project is due Thursday, so my group and I need to finish that up too.

What was your experience of SQL?
I had a small bit of experience with SQL from my internship this past summer, but I was glad to find out we’d be learning more SQL in class. It started out fairly simple, but we quickly moved to topics that I hadn’t seen before, such as subqueries. I’d also used joins before but without a complete understanding of how they work, so it was nice to review that.

pick/tip of the week: If you want to listen to music on YouTube while keeping your iPhone locked, use the Opera browser app (or other browser apps) and play the music from there. When you exit the app, hit play from your control center, and now you can listen to YouTube music with your phone locked!
