Keri, I started that comment with a remark about holding everyone to the same standards and how that is tough to do, especially when we spend more time among some people than we do others — and then your reply immediately says that you prize ‘sticking with ones principles over party’ as a way of explaining not supporting HRC, while you continue to ignore the fundamental core value of ‘sticking with one’s principles over party’ regarding your evaluation of the relation between conservatives and DJT. If you think at ‘a very fundamental level’ that that is important, then how can you feel comfortable with comforting the conservatives or the evangelicals or the patriots or any others who went ahead and voted for a man who is neither conservative or moral or patriotic? He clearly would have lost the popular vote by even a wider margin if conservatives and evangelicals and patriots had stuck to their principles, no? Yet you reserve your finger-wagging not for them but for some projection on to me of the SJW in your head. It frustrates me that you go off on some complaint about what you hear from people on the left, rather than take in and respond to what I actually said. I am not a SJW, and when you were one you probably waved that flag more vigorously than I ever have or will. What I said was moderate, and a bit realpolitik — that if the Right will hold its nose and vote for someone that they themselves know stinks, but the Left holds to its principles as you call them to do, the outcome is more than just suboptimal. If I heard you calling on everyone to stick to their principles, and calling out everyone who hasn’t, then you would move up in my estimation. But so far in your Medium posts, you aren’t doing that — you’re working out your frustrations with the flawed groups you were with previously, and ignoring the flaws in those who oppose them.
That’s why I brought up the gerrymandering topic — I will go on record as opposing gerrymandering regardless of who benefits from it, because it is not true to American (aspirational) ideals. You indicate that you believe the same. Can you get the same kind of commitment from Trump voters?
