My point is that rules like “no swimming” are often there for everyone’s protection, not to thwart our rights to self-expression, and there are many parents who fervently wish that their lost children had the broader vision and wisdom to balance their desires with their responsibilities to the larger commonwealth, not just their own families, so that they wouldn’t be suffering in grief and loss.
