When it all started: Man of Steel
Directed by Zack Snyder and written by David S. Goyer , the film stars Henry Cavill, Amy Adams,
Michael Shannon, Kevin Costner, Diane Lane, Laurence Fishburne, Antje Traue, Ayelet Zurer, Christopher Meloni, and Russell Crowe. Man of Steel is a reboot of the Superman film series that retells the character’s origin story. In the film, Clark Kent learns that he is a superpowered alien from the planet Krypton and assumes the role of mankind’s protector as Superman, but finds himself having to prevent General Zod from destroying humanity.
Despite receiving mixed reviews, the film became a box office success, grossing over $668 million worldwide. Critics praised the film’s visuals, action sequences and Hans Zimmer’s musical score but criticized its pacing and lack of character development. Mostly DCs movies are dark and this one is one if them, it showed origin story of superman which was great but boring. First half of the movie didn’t had much of the action scenes but the last 50 minutes was full of action scenes some good, some great and some unnecessary and with a lot of destruction which was also unnecessary. The fight scene was like all of them are just showing off their superpower and destroying things.
All the actors performance was very good, script was also strong, it just lacked some good direction. But still it’s the best of all three in the series.
Batman v superman: Dawn of Failure
The story continued from Man of steel’s stupid destruction that Kryptonians made playing around showing off their superpower. This one is also directed by Zack Snyder and written by Chris Terrio and David S. Goyer, and features an ensemble cast that includes Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Jesse Eisenberg, Diane Lane, Laurence Fishburne , Jeremy Irons, Holly Hunter and Gal Gadot. It is the first live-action film to feature Batman and Superman together, as well as the first live-action cinematic portrayal of Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg and The Flash.
It was a box office disappointment, its strong debut set new box office records, but the film experienced a historic drop in its second weekend and never recovered. The movie was expected to cross the $1 billion mark but was only able to collect $873 millions. It received negative reviews from most of the critics, it’s director’s cut ‘The Ultimate Edition’ with 30 minutes additional footage received better reviews but still it wasn’t enough. The movie was long, slow and boring with the same dark theme that most DC movies are famous for. Henry Cavill was a good choice for Superman but casting Ben Affleck as Batman was a bad idea. He looks lazy, old and bulky. It was only his gadgets, the batmobile which was cool.
The main plot Batman fighting with superman was like, Superman can’t make simple decision (only wants to save Lois Lane) and do mistakes, on the other hand Batman holds grudge against him for the massive destruction (which looks like mostly for destroying his building) and is also afraid of the power he has. So to sum up the things Superman is like a stupid kid and Batman is the teacher with a Krypton made stick who is trying to teach him a lesson.
The movie turned out to be a big disappointment for fans, but yeah they still watched it.
Suicide Squad comes to rescue
The film is written and directed by David Ayer and stars an ensemble cast featuring Will Smith, Jared Leto, Margot Robbie, Joel Kinnaman, Viola Davis, Jai Courtney, Jay Hernandez, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Ike Barinholtz, Scott Eastwood and Cara Delevingne . Now this movie is real fun, it’s not like the other dark themed serious movies of DC this one is full of craziness and crazy characters. It continues the story after Superman’s death (yeah everyone knows that by now). Now they fear what if another stupid Kryptonian comes and turns against humanity so they assembles a team of bad peoples to fight against them.
So its like they didn’t found any good soldiers and went to assemble a team which mostly each other. Now the person who is responsible to keep them together (Enchantress) turns against every and tries to destroy everything.
Now for the good part of the movie Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie) did a very great job with her role, she is like the main character of the movie who keeps the whole movie in a good mood. She is like a mix of fun, a lot of craziness and scary at the same time. The other good part was the music, the songs were really awesome and kept the movie alive all well suited with perfect timing.
For the bad part well there are lots of things, the story itself is very weak and yes little bad direction. It is mostly rated negative by critics but fans still loved it. It is also doing well at the box office with a collection of $492 million, just like the previous movie it also had huge second week drop.
Now next in the list are:-
- Wonder Woman (2 June 2017)
- Justice League (17 November 2017)
- The Flash
- Aquaman (27 July 2018)
Well none of the above looks like a good wishlist movie, but still I’m excited about the Aquaman.
To start with Wonder Woman, well she is like female Captain America with a lasso(sorry but yeah it is like that). Both fighting in different World Wars. For the record Gal Gadot is super hot, but it still can’t save the movie. Even Captain America had success only after its first part.
Justice League, second in the queue and the most awaited one. Well it’s always like this, fans with big hopes comes disappointed common for DC. I saw the trailer, quite disappointing but after seeing Aquaman I was like, OK now there’s one real man in the movie, he is muscular with awesome looks and attitude. Zack Snyder will be directing this one and I don’t know if that’s good or bad with the history of Batman v Superman. But Still he is the man who directed 300 and Watchman, maybe this time he may go beyond expectations.
So it’s still not clear if DC Extended Universe will succeed or not, now all hopes are on Justice League.
(Disclaimer: I don’t own any of the above photos and all of them are the property of DC and WB).
