Immediate reaction to “You like Hillary now?”*

Bernie didn’t have his best debate. Hillary was good on foreign policy, an area in which even Bernie admits she’s more knowledgable. I don’t like that Bernie always talks about the Iraq war, like it’s gotten annoying. I prefer most of his domestic policy over Hillary’s. Its just her emphasis on continuing Obama’s policies really stood out to me. Yeah, that was obviously her goal and there are other reasons I’ll probably still vote for Bernie. In this debate though, I think Hillary did a much better job. The way she connected expressing suspicion of terrorism to Protecting Muslim Americans was so well done. And that’s just one example. In earlier debates, it really felt like Bernie was the underdog and his body language and words showed that. In this debate though, coming off a great win in New Hampshire he was more on the offensive and clearly expressed disapproval at some of what Hillary said. It’s a far cry from the “no one gives a damn about your emails!” that we once heard. It’s pretty remarkable that he’s done all of his fundraising without a Super-pac and I chuckled when Hillary tried to compare her dedicated supporters to the hundreds of thousands of people who have donated to Bernie’s campaign. She is funded by corporations and moguls like Bernie has said. Should that disqualify her from the presidency? Maybe. Maybe not. If anything, she should be disqualified for he numerous “flip-flops” on gay marriage, incarceration and welfare reform that she supported during Bill (neé Lewinsky) Clinton advocated during his presidency. Bernie has maintained his positions on gay marriage, abortion and other social issues throughout his career. Arguably, Sanders’ platform resembles much of what MLK advocated for regarding the intersection between race and economic policy. I like that and agree with that. Ultimately, it will be interesting to see what happens when the electorate becomes more diverse — in states such as Nevada and South Carolina. Bernie’s commitment to the horrific inequality in this country is extremely commendable, but I want to see more. Besides the economy, what other stances on issues will differentiate him from Hillary? What will he do to sharpen up his foreign policy? I like Bernie and think he could win, I just worry that he may be too ideological and could alienate voters. I think much of the criticism on Hillary is a bit unfair— though so is this concocted “Bernie Bro” narrative. It’s rude and kinda discriminatory and generalizing towards Bernie supporters. I think it’s awful that prominent feminists and pioneers in the 2ndish wave of feminism, Gloria Steinem and Madeline Albright demand that all women should support Hillary. That’s not true, everyone should be entitled to their own decision. Basically, I just think Hillary had a great great debate and really surprised me. I’m still “feeling the Bern,” it just may not be as fiery as beforehand.
