Rubies are the timeless jewels, the ones which have been the centre of attraction for everyone since the time immemorial. These gems have been used not only as an object of beauty, but also as a weapon, a magical blessing and what not. Considered as a precious gemstone worldwide, the Ruby gems prices depend upon the 3 C’s, namely, color, clarity and carat. There are a numerous kinds of Rubies available in the market that one should consider before buying. The different kinds of Rubies are:

Myanmar/Burmese Rubies : The best Ruby gems are known to be derived from the mines of Burma/Myanmar. The home of the world’s finest Rubies, the Burmese Rubies are also known by the name of Pigeon’s Blood Rubies. Such a name is given as per their fierce red color, which stays the same in all types of light conditions. The mines of Mogok and Mong-Hsu are known for producing these Pigeon Blood Rubies.

Tanzanian Rubies : The Ruby gems in Tanzania are derived from the mines of Songea. These stones have a color similar to red Garnets. An interesting fact about the Tanzanian Rubies is that the intensity of their color is inversely proportional to the size. It means that larger the size of Ruby, lighter its color gets. Hence, the smaller Tanzanian Rubies are prized.

Thai Rubies : The Rubies derived from Thailand hold the title of second best Rubies in the World, after the Burmese Rubies. These gems are famous for having unique dark undertones, which is a result of a composition of Aluminium Oxide, along with Chromium and Iron. These gems are usually termed as the Siam Rubies and have hue ranging from brown to burgundy.

Madagascar Rubies : Usually the Rubies derived from Madagascar undergo treatment for gaining amazing hues. Such hues, after the treatment, turn similar to that of the Burmese Rubies. These gems are mined from the areas of Vatomandry and d Andilamena. The Rubies mined from the former area don’t require treatment, but the ones from the latter mine do.

Sri Lankan Rubies : Sri Lanka holds a reputed place in the market of gemstones. When it comes for Rubies, Sri Lanka is known for producing these gems with a signature pink tint. These amazing gemstones can at times carry the beauty of the gorgeous Burmese Rubies.

Afghani Rubies : When it comes about the use of Rubies in the past, Afghanistan played a significant role in providing the world with this amazing gemstone. The great personalities like Ibn Battuta, Marco Polo and Al Biruni have discussed about the mining processes in Afghanistan in the descriptions of their glorious journeys. The mines of Badakshan and Jagdalek are the prominent sites for Ruby gem mining. The gems found in these areas range from faint red to deep red colors. What makes the Afghani Rubies unique is their strong fluorescence.

Vietnamese Rubies : The standard of Rubies mined in Vietnam is somewhat to the Burmese Rubies. Nghe and Yen Bai are the 2 major mining areas of these stones, but the productivity of these mines is quite unpredictable.
