The not so far off dream of becoming a renowned guitarist

This dream of becoming a renowned guitarist came to me about 2 years ago. It was when I first started to listening to classic rock bands such as Led Zeppelin and Guns n’ Roses. I became interested in the guitar riffs those bands played and decided to buy myself a electric guitar after much consideration. I experimented with it and didn't find much luck with it for the first couple of months but I soon got the hang of it. Now I’m able to play some intermediate guitar riffs that I didn't know I would ever be able to do.

I learned most of what I know on guitar off of YouTube. It can sometimes be a frustrating process because I pick songs that sound really cool, but are way out of my playing range. I start them and kind of learn them but stop and start on another song that sounds just as cool. I play that song and move on to another song again without ever learning it 100 percent. This process has been basically on repeat for the whole time I’ve had my guitar. The only songs I know I can play with confidence are “Stairway to Heaven” by Led Zeppelin and “Enter Sandman” by Metallica. They are very fun songs to play and I believe I can play them moderately well.

Ever since I started playing guitar, its been my goal to become an expert guitarist. I want to be able to shred the guitar solos in the songs I listen to with ease. I want to be able to make a name for myself with the guitar but its harder than it seems. Guitar is a very hard instrument to learn. Its tough, but I have to learn to get through the tough phase. This phase is where you believe you cant do basically anything right. You want your fingers to move faster along the fret board but they just cant. Your mind wants you to be better but you don’t see the progress in person. I have had problems with this phase but I believe I’m getting out of it slowly but surely.

My taste in music has changed because of this dream too. Lately, I have been listening to bands such as Avenged Sevenfold and Metallica just for the crazy guitar solos. The ways those guitarists in those bands are able to play really intrigues me and keeps my dream alive. I want to become as good as guitar players as they are. That’s one of my main goals.

Now whether this dream comes true or not, I will stick to guitar. For me, it relieves a lot of stress and listening to music with a lot of it relieves even more stress. I am noticing increases in my ability to play all the time. If I keep up with it, maybe one day my dream will be achieved. I just need to keep on shredding the guitar and not look back.
