If you read our 2021 round-up post, then you know we plan to expand our services into several states in the country this year. Having commenced operations in three southwestern states, we decided to take the #AwabahTrain to the South-South, starting with Edo state. As always, all our trips are learning experiences, and we got to connect with the good people of Benin City.
Our activation campaign in Benin was held between March 4th and March 11th and featured several activities, including agent activations, market storms, and meetings with key stakeholders. These are explained below.
Agent Activations/Market Storms
Our team in Benin successfully onboarded over 10 agents at several locations in town. As usual, registered agents will be responsible for onboarding people into the micro pension scheme and assisting with fund remittance. In addition, to drive awareness about Awabah, they held market storms in New Benin and Oba markets.
Stakeholder Engagements
It is easy to adopt a messiah complex that makes us think that we have to be solely responsible for all the campaigns that push for micro pension adoption, but thankfully, we have not fallen into this trap. We actively seek partnerships wherever we go, and our trip to Benin wasn’t any different. Our team met with leaders of the Edo State Market Association, the Commissioner for Women’s Affairs, and other stakeholders. In the coming months, we hope to see the reward of these collaborations by seeing the exponential adoption of micro pension and other micro-financial services in the state.
Our trip to Benin was the first step in us establishing state-wide operations in Edo, and we will surely be back to take our offerings beyond the capital city. We are taking Edo, and we’re super excited about it.
