Introduction
My name is Alyssa Ward and I am a sophomore Communications major with a minor in Spanish. I started off as an undeclared major with an interest in the field of Communications. After taking a few classes in entrepreneurship, marketing, and communications, I realized that the classes in Communication studies excite me the most since I enjoy writing, being organized, and interacting with people. I am still looking into different fields of this study that involve traveling and working with others. Throughout my life, I’ve seen how big of a role media has within communication. With that being said, the media to me is an essential part of our society since it shapes the way we communicate and interact with one another in everyday life. It has become a part of our daily routine, whether it be scrolling through social media, looking up a topic on the Internet for a homework assignment, or watching the nightly news to become informed about what is going on in the world. Although there are many different types of media, they all have a similar purpose. They give us easy access to a wealth of knowledge and allow us to communicate with people from a distance. The media has also affected the way people act, which has shaped the culture of our society. For example, social media has changed the way people view themselves since they are constantly comparing themselves with others. Today, almost every kid has a smart phone with access to the internet and social media. If it weren’t for the media, the culture of our society and what people do would be drastically different. Face to face interaction would be more evident since people wouldn’t be depending on technology and the media for communication.
