What can you do to make life more fruitful and productive?

I have observed so many people around me who have the potential to be productive but fail at it. Most of the times, the changes that they need to bring in their life seem obvious but they are not easy to follow.

Here are 4 steps that I believe can help make progress towards a change you want in life:

1. Spend time on your phone wisely — I say wisely and not less or more because it is not up to me to decide how much time you should be spending.

We carry a trove of activities in our pockets. The same activities can also be distractions, depending on the way we spend our time on the phone. If you find yourself spending too much time on Instagram, looking at other people’s photos and wondering how your life is not as eventful as theirs, then you have got to ditch your phone and actually start living. Grow a hobby instead of sitting and browsing the net.

Learn, make, experience and share. Do one of these 4 things and you will find yourself spending more time doing something productive than getting jealous while looking at others’ photos.

2. Develop a hobby and learn from it — Everyone has a hobby, even if it means being a couch potato and binge-watching. But very few people find the means to channelize their hobbies into something meaningful. You like reading books, good for you — now develop writing as a skill and write a book for yourself, or learn a life lesson from the characters. The beauty of developing a hobby is to share and create experiences of our own and add value to someone else’s life.

3. Become better at decision making — I have seen so many people taking time to make decisions. If you take half an hour to decide what you want to eat at a break that lasts only 1 hour, then you have got to learn the art of better decision making. This also goes along with learning how to prioritize better and time management. Remember, if you make decisions quicker — you save time. In the beginning, it will be scary to take decisions and face consequences if they do not turn out to be the way you expected but that is what will help us grow and learn how to make the right decision in the future.

4. Wake up in the morning with an agenda — When you wake up in the morning, think about all the goals you want to achieve in the day or the tasks to be accomplished. This holds true even if you are on a holiday. Unless, you are planning to spend your holiday sleeping all day long, having an agenda for the day can really make you feel proud of yourself, and it will ensure that no tasks are left undone at the end of the day.
