Released in October 2012, audiences got a more in-depth look at the world of MMA. Audiences were impressed by Kevin James’s athletic side of humor.
About an apathetic teacher at a school that’s suffering money. Due to cutbacks, many teachers including their music program will be let go unless payment is made before closing. James’s character soon dusts off his wrestling skills to become an MMA fighter. despite his lack of MMA experience, this is the school’s last chance to save itself from bankruptcy.
The best part about this film is that it showcases the process of becoming a professional fighter. The film gives the audience an intense look at training for an MMA bout, the importance of cutting weight, escaping dangerous submission holds, offensive striking, and lasting in the octagon. From Kevin James’s perspective, he is comically losing almost every fight through the art of montage. Until he lands a lucky shot that knocks out one of his opponents.
This film includes a special cameo for UFC commentator and comedian Joe Rogan. Who offers James’s character a chance to fight in the UFC, to earn more money. Joe Rogan eventually talks about being impressed by his athleticism in the movie on his podcast “The Joe Rogan Experience” which is one of the most listened-to shows on Spotify. This film is worth watching even for people who have never seen the sport of MMA.
