Keep Your Pets Safe During the Holiday Season

DO

  • Buy your pet a gift too. Specially made dog/cat toys and treats work best.
  • Shower your pet with love and attention by taking him for a walk on a leash.
  • Buy your pet an ID tag or a microchip and a new collar to keep him identified in case he gets lost.
  • Consider adopting your pet a playmate once the holiday season is over. Make it a family event.
  • Buy a lonely person an OKC Animal Welfare gift certificate so they can find their new best friend.
  • Keep your pet inside and secure from open doors, crowds, and unfamiliar people.
  • Try to stick to your pet’s regular routine and schedule.

DO NOT

  • Overfeed your pet as they can get sick on foods they are not used to.
  • Do not feed your pet candy and chocolate as it is poisonous.
  • Give your pet turkey bones as they can get lodged in their throat.
  • Do not ignore your pet as changing a routine can cause behavior problems.
  • Give your pet tinsel or other decorations to play with as they can swallow it or get caught up.
