Connecting the world and accepting diversity

As shown in the Session Information, 5 countries were connected with people from diverse backgrounds who were native speakers of other languages.

Then what happened?

Some people actively communicated verbally while others communicated with text messages. They did their best, as time allowed, in a way that made sense to them. One of the participants, who was relatively quiet during the game, later told me that this session gave her the opportunity to revisit the areas she wanted to work on, such as speaking in English and communicating with others.

Roles of children

We had a 10-year-old participant who was familiar with the game.

The visible presence of children in a session naturally creates a more relaxed atmosphere, which can help adults to be who they are and put their titles and expectations aside.

In addition to this, it was the authenticity of the child that set the tone for the session during the game. She simply spoke up and said without any hesitation:

“Excuse me, can I please have 100 Money? I want to do this project but I don’t have enough Money. ”

She also shared her intentions, explaining that once the project is implemented, she will give the necessary resources to those who need them.

Once the request and intention are clearly explained, it encourages us to work together.

Yes, she was a child, and yet, she was one of the important stakeholders in this game world.

Soon after this, the adult players started doing the same.

Let it go and let it come

This session gave me a chance to learn how to surrender myself to unexpected incidents and to let possibilities emerge.

My hosting partner in Taipei misunderstood the starting time as the session was across multiple time zones. Less than 2 hours before the session started, she told me that she wouldn’t make it to the start. But she already had someone to fill in for her. Here I was given a chance to host a session with someone else. Hosting a session with a new person brings an opportunity to get to know them which leads to new dynamics of the session. A new possibility. In addition, it brought us closer and now we are discussing creating a Possible World Session around ESG which is her focus at the moment.

To be honest, I was initially apprehensive when I learnt that my partner had not made it and a new partner had been allocated to me. Uncertainty and the unknown were undoubtedly the causes of this. But I had no choice but to surrender to this. The moment I welcomed this uncertainty, it became an opportunity. This was my Kizuki for the day, my mindset shift experience.

There must always be something like this around us.
