Sim Chart- A Nursing Student Resource

Oh Sim Chart how I wish you were not in my life…sometimes. If you don’t know what Sim Chart is, it is basically an online digital database that simulates documentation/charting for nursing students to practice.

When I first began my nursing informatics class I did not know what to expect. I hadn’t even fully understood what ‘informatics’ meant because I had never taken a computer class before. Now after doing many sim chart assignments for different classes, I can tentatively say I know how to use the resource. I like how in sim chart, you are presented with a case study or a patient and you have objectives that you must complete. It’s interesting because you actually simulate what it would be like to chart and document data. The nice thing about informatics is that we were taught how to use sim chart so that we can continue to use it next semester. As much as I dreaded doing a sim chart assignment, I am thankful that I know how to use it and can know what to expect in hospitals.
