Tezpur is the place where the legendary “Hari Hara war" took place because of Banasura.. Tezpur is also seat of many historical monuments,which represents it’s importance from ancient days.
There are many ancient temples around Tezpur.One of the oldest Shiva temple in Tezpur on the banks of beautiful Brahmaputra river,It is believed that lord shiva gave his blessings to King Banasura in this place. It is believed that Rudra ( Lord Shiva ) had left the print of his left foot (pada) on a stone found in the temple. It is believed that Mahadeva showed his real self to king Bana here.

The present structure of the temple was built by Shiva Singha in 1730.It is a bliss to visit a place with calm and serene location.The main temple was destroyed, due to erosion of river Brahmaputra.And the beautiful Brahmaputra river is one that makes this ancient temple worth visiting.
