There is a reason they are called gentle giants. They are very calm and not at all aggressive, until and unless they are provoked or the situation calls for it. They are very gentle with kids and they love their family. Great Danes are also comfortable with other dogs and pets, irrespective of their size.

Their temperament and behavior with their companions make them a very good family dog and companion dogs. They love to be with a family and are extremely faithful and loyal. If you have a great dane at home then you can sleep peacefully knowing that the giant is at the watch. The size, strength, and loyalty of Great Danes also make them a good watchdog.

Lifespan and Health of Great Dane

Great Danes are nicknamed as heart breaker because they have a small lifespan of 6–8 years. They grow very fast and this takes a toll on their body and bones. Heart diseases and backbone issues are common in Great Danes. Owners of Great Danes should limit their exercise when they are small. They should take a rest of at least an hour after every meal. This saves them from boating and other digestive issues.
