ON PROPOSALS AND THE HEADLESS CHICKEN DANCE

A lot of people have made posts highlighting the things that we shouldn't carry over into the new year, but nobody talked about proposals.

Who else felt some type of way about some of the proposal videos that traversed the social media sphere in 2017?

Like that Ogbonnaya Kanu and Laura Ikeji one, where the guy just knelt down, and stretched forth the ring, a bemused smile on his bearded face. He didn't utter one word, which in the end is what a proposal is. A bunch of words, nicely put together in the bid to convince your lover to marry you. It's also probably the only time your Nigerian bobo wee ever kneel down for you so, yeah I get that it's a big deal.

But in 2017, the men said nothing. They just knelt down there, ring stretched forth, causing the lady to promptly begin manifesting the headless chicken choreography. And me I just wonder why. He didn't ask you to marry him, he bought you ring ni joor. Then the video wee coman go viral. 😏

Why? Because my people can copy stupidly, and prolly also because we like headless chicken choreography. Anyway, this is one of the things me I think should stop in 2018.

Dear unkus who have vowed that 2018 is their year of proposals, biko put in small effort. Write something. Say something. Something thoughtful and sweet so that later when you do all those your infuriating big head moves that make us want to slap you, she will just remember proposal day and smile.

Meanwhile, if you're wondering how they proposed to me, with my all my big mouth, it happened on a Sunday afternoon after a botched attempt at siesta. In the room. On the bed. With nobody but us present. No headless chicken choreography.

Let me also mention that it was about a month to the wedding. With dates fixed and all. He didn't think I would say no, as I don already buy cloth. But I got my kneel down and sweet honest words. As you know, it is a big deal.

Happy New Year!
