It is said: “Under the right circumstances, taking your resume in person to a prospective employer can set you apart from your competition. Who knows — you might just bump into the boss and get a chance to make your case in person, impressing him with your initiative and determination”.

I am always lazy in dropping resume via email or in person drop. Perhaps I will not drop resume if I were not given the activity of in person resume drop. Firstly I was very confused where to drop my resume than I made my mind-set. The only problem that I was facing was my laziness to drop resume in person. I overcome my will of laziness and left my comfort zone. I decided to drop resume in school named “The Trust” located in Amir Town canal road. I customized my resume and cover letter according to biology lecturer. On Wednesday morning at 10 p.m. I set out from my comfort zone and reached school at 10:45 p.m. and I dropped my resume to HR of school named Saima. I gave my elevator pitch in an effective way and madam Saima got very impressed and her response was very positive. She said if there will be vacancy then I will definitely call you.

Lesson that I learned

I learned through this activity that in person drop really shows your passion towards organization and mostly HR prefer candidates with in person drop having perfect resume and cover letter. This left a powerful impact on HR.

Challenges I faced

The biggest challenge that I faced is to gather courage to leave my comfort zone.

How I overcome this challenge?

I overcome this challenge by following the principle “Just started let the work teach you” and now I am thinking of in person drop to other companies related to my field.

What can I do differently next time?

From next time I will prepare more effectively for in person drop by practising my elevator pitch in a way that it seems it was made really for that company, I will always customize my resume and cover letter according to the job description.

Learning for others

  • Prepare a package for each employer you plan to visit i.e. customize your resume and cover letter according to job description.
  • Shows your passion and real interest towards company through in person drop.
  • Greet everyone with whom you come into contact at a prospective employer’s office
  • Be confident and believe in yourself.
