Teamwork is generally understood as the willingness of a group of people to work together to achieve a common aim. For example we often use the phrase:” he or she is a good team player”. This means someone has the interests of the team at heart, working for the good of the team.

A teamwork environment promotes an atmosphere that fosters friendship and loyalty. These close-knit relationships motivate employees in parallel and align them to work harder, cooperate and be supportive of one another. Individuals possess diverse talents, weaknesses, communication skills, strengths, and habits. The purpose of teamwork is to help increase productivity, quality and to provide a support system for each member of the team. When people work together, they are able to get feedback on their work and help when they need it. Teamwork is helpful for completing certain projects at home, school or work.

More often than not, effective teamwork is built on the following ten characteristics:

  • Clear direction. …
  • Open and honest communication. …
  • Support risk taking and change. …
  • Defined roles. …
  • Mutually accountable. …
  • Communicate freely. …
  • Common goals. …
  • Encourage differences in opinions.
  • 5 Steps to Building an Effective Team
  1. Step 1: Establish leadership. If your employees trust your judgement, they will work effectively even when you’re not around. …
  2. Step 2: Establish relationships with each of your employees. …
  3. Step 3: Build relationships between your employees. …
  4. Step 4: Foster teamwork. …
  5. Step 5: Set ground rules for the team.

“Individual commitment to a group effort — that is what makes a team work, a company work, a society work, a civilization work.” — Vince Lombardi.

“Talent wins games, but teamwork and intelligence win championships.” — Michael Jordan

Let us take the example of the entertainment industry.

The entertainment industry is massive these days. All the wonderful content (movies, web series, music) coming our way and doing great business is not the result of one person’s great idea or hard work. Rather, many people work together as a team to make it a success.

Good direction but bad costumes can’t bring success. Good actors but the bad script cannot hit the box office with success. A person working on one aspect of it has to understand the creative needs of the other departments and collaborate accordingly. Therefore, many people work together behind the curtains to bring a spectacular piece of content in front of us.

How would a whole world of these tasks be done beautifully without exercising teamwork?
