Pomodoro: An effective tool for time management

The Pomodoro Technique is a time management method developed by Francesco Cirillo in the late 1980s. The technique uses a timer to break down work into intervals, traditionally 25 minutes in length, separated by short breaks.

It is said that human body is a machine which is being monitored by the master machine which is the brain. Like ironical machines, this machine can not work non stop as it needs regular brakes and pauses. It can work in the best way and can give most productive output only when it is fully relaxed and receptive to do work. If we try to keep a lot of burden on this small, fragile machine then it may not give us that good output. Keeping this need of our machine in mind, POMODORO Technique was introduced.

As this picture is presenting, After every 25 minute working, the brain needs a 5 minutes pause. If we give it to the brain, Its productivity can be increased to much extent as It becomes proactive for next work. It can give a more efficient output as in this way, the brain works in full of its potential.

As for as my experience of using this technique is concerned, I tried to apply this using the project work as it put a lot of burden on my mind. I thought to keep everything aside for 25 minutes and fully concentrate on my work making sure that no one disturbs me neither on text, nor on phone call. I also locked my room from inside so that I can fully concentrate on my work. I set a goal for me to achieve in first 25 minutes and thought to talk to one of my friend, after 25 minutes of work, as a reward.

It was an awesome experience as I had done much more in those 25 minutes then that which I was expecting in One an hour. After doing this, I had a 5 minutes brake and it made me much relaxed as I had done with my lot of burden. Right after 25 minutes I again started work with the same strategy and decided to watch a movie at the end of 25 minutes, as a reward. I was so happy that how accurately and efficiently the work is doing. It also gave my mind full relaxation and ability to think even better. I watched movie after this and enjoyed it a lot.

It all happened due to effective time management and full concentration to the work. It was much interesting experience because I was able to complete my work in a very short time then that I was expecting to complete in 3–4 hours. I also had time to enjoy the movie as well.

The main takeaway of my activity was that, as time is money, we should use it wisely. And we can get more out of it then our expectations only if we manage it effectively.
