Are you Prepared Life after college?

Dear Marketing Student,

Are you preparing for life after college? Here;s a few Do’s and dont’s to get you started.

Don’t go to college thinking your future is settled as long as you graduate,

Don’t just do what is expected of you,

Don’t settle,

Don’t wait to be told what to do,

You won’t learn anything,

Don’t wait to figure out what you want to do with your life,

Start doing something, anything,

Read (not just textbooks!),

Find a passion or a skill,

Learn what it takes to get to where you want to be,

Then read some more,

Marketing is about what you can do not what you know,

Most companies do not care what your GPA is,

Hard skills are like diamonds,

They are expensive,

But that’ll cost you nothing but time,

Don’t be ordinary,

Do something worthwhile,

Do something difficult,

Yes, it’s hard, but the things that are easy are hardly ever rewarding,

Ask yourself,

Do you want to be comfortable or,

Do you want to be successful,?

You don’t need to be smart,

You just need to try,

Although you may fail,

Is it better to never succeed or to never try,?

If the early bird caught the worm,

Then the college student who started early,

Was prepared for life after college.

Bottom line is, you plan for when they graduate. For some people, all they need to get the job they want, all they need is their degree and a good GPA. Don’t go through college assuming that will be you. Take internships, join a student association, learn new skills in your spare time and do side projects. But most importantly find out what it takes to get to where you want to go, then act on it.

College provides an amazing opportunity to those who choose to seize it, you have countless free time to think about what you want to do with your life and prepare appropriately for life after college. Fail to plan, plan to fail, or in this case, get a dead end job that’s only tolerable because it pays the bills. After college, it’s very hard to find the time to learn new skills, let alone master them. Use the time you wisely.
