So, I recently decided to design a web dashboard that monitors the health of people.

As we know in our today’s society, we are usually caught up doing one thing or the other to get ahead whether it’s busy studying for an exam or working on various tasks on a job or business. We get so busy working which often causes us stress and therefore eat junk/fast food or even overeat good meals too. This mode of feeding can make us overweight and after a while of noticing, we promise ourselves that we would find time to work out just to get rid of excess fat or even get fit, but finds it difficult to do so.

Now, even if you then decide to go to the gym, and manage to work out, most times the activity of such exercise usually comes as boring, especially when you feel like you’re not getting anywhere after putting in several hours. Then eventually you stop working out as you should and wonder what areas could you highlight so you could pay more attention.

Well, after considering this general challenge, I then decide to come up with this design solution meant to aid and assist people who fall into this category of those willing to get fit but are finding it difficult to go to the gym or work with a coach and would want to try out with an app.

Here is my solution as a case study project, however it is meant to give in more insights into what you should be paying attention to when using an exercise or gym app.

Project Subtitle: Health tracker web app dashboard

Project Duration: 5 Days

My Role: I worked on this project as a Product Designer utilizing the design thinking process

Project Overview:

This project involves designing a health web app which can track data points such as hours of sleep per day, the number of steps taken per day, calories burned, weight, heart rate and so on.

This collective information to be gathered is to ensure our users are able to get into their best shape, health and fitness as they make use of it.

Objective:

To design the dashboard of health tracker web app

The Challenge/Problem:

To design a web interface to reveal activities and areas to assist users to get fit.

Looking at the fact that a lot of people, especially those approaching their mid-30s upward might start to see a decline in their physique and sometimes would not always have the time to work out at a gym.

They would sometimes try to hire a coach to guide them to highlight areas where they might need to take care of, but this can come times as stressful and costly.

This is the basis for designing this app to assist, guide and also make the process enjoyable from start to finish.

Employing the design thinking process, the necessary requirements are carried out to provide a suitable solution:

Discover, Define and Ideate

3 stage design thinking process
A 3-stage design thinking process

Discover stage:

At this stage, I’ve based the design on target users such as young adults like myself, and older ones too (with vitality).

Below is the outline of the mentioned users.

Users: Young adults, aged between 20–50yrs+

next, we’ll discuss the Define stage

Define stage:

Persona: below is my characteristic persona for the selected group of users.

Persona attributes

From considering this range of users inline according to the persona traits, and applying the ‘How might we’ problem statement:

○ Proper Identification of keys areas in a clear, concise and appealing format

○ Relatable trends and records to keep informed so they can measure their performance in activities

so let’s see the final stage of the design thinking process!

Ideate stage:

Colour Palette:

The major idea behind the visual design in this context is to express a plain clear idea of the app. Based on the design of the dashboard as developed and seen below, these are the few basic but major colours which I chose that were implemented in communicating this as much as possible, which was utilized in this solution as the final design.

Thanks for reading, hopefully, you got the idea of the fitness design and are also able to identify key areas where you might need to clarify before going for that jog or weightlifting!
