Studio Update #19: Get Fucked

As you can probs tell by the cover and title, this studio update’s gonna start with a bit of a bummer: my Twitter account got hacked and then suspended. I don’t want to explain the entire situation in detail here but you can view this doc with all the info related to what happened:

As of right now, I have no means of getting it back yet as their support is fully automated. I wish this was just a tiny little setback but my Twitter account is where I share most of my work on, and hence get most of my leads from. The Twitter account is HEX’s biggest marketing asset and I’ve been consistently posting on it.

So yeah, that’s taken quite a toll on everything as a lot of my effort’s been going into finding people, connecting with ex-employees, and figuring out ways to get in front of a real human on their support team to look into my case. So far, there’s no hope on the official side but a little hope through back-door entry methods. I’m going to keep pushing on this front as it is a priority to me.

Now, onto the actual update. Last update I said I would do the following:

Write an SEO article.

And I did. I wrote a piece on where I think tech branding is going and how companies, agencies, and freelancers can adopt to the changing tides. I did not publish this on the HEX website as I wanted to use my twitter traffic to see the performance of the blog. Now, since there is no more twitter, there is a big drop in visitors and clicks on the site overall. So it just didn’t make sense to roll it out with this. I did, however, publish the blog on Medium: https://medium.com/@ayushsoni_io/building-visual-worlds-how-tech-brands-are-evolving-bd98efe1a58f

Reach out + connect with 2 studios.

I did end up connecting with 2 different studio owners.

Improve the IG post format.

While I kicked this project off, I did not end up finishing it as I was overbooked with managing some of our projects. I did, however, post an IG reel to upkeep the posting streak: https://www.instagram.com/p/C_IlFQ2paWi/

Reach out to Webflow

I did this and we’re in touch with the team trying to get some credits loaded onto our profile. over the next few months, we should have a solid and improved webflow profile as we add more sites to the arenal.

Send proposal

I dug a bit deeper into this opportunity and it revealed that it’s a more complex task than anticipated as the client is requesting a sample campaign design. I’ve, hence, moved this to next week where I’ll focus on this.

On the client side we worked on:

  • landing page polish and development for a VC fund
  • brand iterations and landing page design for a consumer app
  • new branding project for a marketplace
  • webflow bug fixing on a large website

In the coming sprint, I want to focus on;

  1. Finish the IG post (+ do a case study)
Since this item is carry-forwarding from last week, I decided to add the mockups to the hex website as a full-length case study.
  2. Proposal Campaign Development
I do find that the opportunity we have here is too good to miss out on, and we need to put additional effort. So, I want to take some time off to prep a campaign direction for the client as a part the proposal.
  3. Get the Twitter account back
Yep, this one’s weird but honestly more important than anything else on the list (on any of my updates). Twitter was more than a marketing chanel for me; it was a means of expression. It was my little workshop where I could share any design I wanted, get feedback, and grow with my community. I enjoyed it and it was a great part of the business. I want to put a lot more efforts into trying to get this account back in action.

Sometimes, you get fucked. See ya around 10 Sep (everything should be fine by then)…
