Note: this update is October’s month-end update which is a few days late + going into early Nov. We still need to do the early Nov update.

Progress check

This is a review of the items / goals I set for myself on the last update.

Experimental Case Studies

This was a good idea to pursue since we’re always doing new stuff and never got the chance to showcase some old brand work.

hex.inc/work/popcorn
hex.inc/work/creamier

check them out ^^

also got a v2 case study for an older live case study since we did a bunch of new stuff for them since I’d done the v1:

Google Paid Ad Test

Shipped, live, testing for a week. Did this today bc I was busy so I don’t have an answer on yes or no yet. If we get 1 legit (real business wants to work with us) form submission in this trial week, it’ll get to live another week.

Design a new brand

This was the first item I did. Super happy with how it turned out. below’s a quick snippet. I shared on X a bunch of times and on IG as well.

Client work updates:

  • been working on something really cool. super secret right now
  • landing page dev iterations
  • design for a upcoming in-person meet-up

also

  • Met up with Adam from ONBOX Creative in Vancouver. Great guy and super interesting story. I also love the work they’re doing and it’s interesting to hear about his thought process with running an agency + overhead + managing work + scaling. I’m in a much leaner place with lower scale but it gives good insight on what to look out for if I ever go with full-time leadership.
  • I did a podcast with Omar talking about how I got into design + my unique approach of brute-forcing my way into the market. He’s a great host and also hyper sharp / aware from what I could gauge.

Goals

These are goals I’m setting for myself to complete for the next update.

One quick rule for this update is that it needs to be submitted by coming Friday (in 1 week). So the items I have here are going to be less ambitious than normal :)

Automate Reachout

I tried doing this a while back but none of the software felt right. My reachout strategy is usually just finding people doing cool shit and saying what’s up to them. It takes about 30 mins a day. I go and browse some profiles and if I like what they’re doing and think that we might be able to do some cool design stuff together, i’ll shoot over a personalized message. I don’t know the best way to automate this, but I want to spend tomorrow to figure it out + see what I can do.

Pitch a brand

Spend 1–2 days to pitch a brand to a company you really want to work with. Just rethink their visual style and see how you can improve it. I feel Cursor would be a really cool client for HEX, so I might just go with them.

Ask for Clutch reviews

We have a profile but we need reviews. I’ll be reaching out to old clients and see if they’d be open to help review us :)

That’s all I’ll be doing this week.

Notes:

I’m downsizing efforts on IG for now. We haven’t really figured out the algo + it’s taking a bit too much time + it’s been 2 months of consistent efforts. We’ll be doing 3 posts a week + 1 reel for now and see how that does.
