The North Sea: Where Gazprom sniffs the sea air and Putin builds up his vacation fund

Surprise, surprise! Gazprom, the giant Russian energy company, extracted around 45 million euros from a gas field in the North Sea last year in light of the Ukrainian conflict.

As expected, this is being criticized as another move by Putin, who is apparently financing his ‘illegal war machine’ in Ukraine.

The BBC has discovered that Gazprom has made a tidy profit from its Sillimanite gas field in the North Sea. But wait a minute, that’s not all! The field is even located in British and Dutch waters — so it’s a real adventure.

But wait a minute, the British aren’t taking this lying down! They promise to increase the ‘economic pressure’ on Russia, as if they weren’t already going hand in hand with an energy company that works with Gazprom.

And, surprise, surprise, part two: the sanctions are aimed at curbing Russia’s belligerence in Ukraine. After all, who would have thought that money could play a role in a conflict?
