Installing Ubuntu Linux

Upon booting up Ubuntu, select “Try or Install Ubuntu”. Ubuntu will load, and you will be taken to the “Welcome” screen.

Click “Install Ubuntu”.

Select your keyboard layout (here we have selected “English (US)”, and click “Continue”.

Keep the defaults and click “Continue”.

Keep the defaults and click “Install Now”.

Click “Continue”.

Select your time zone, and click “Continue”.

Enter whatever you wish for the user account, and click “Continue”. For the purposes of a simple homelab machine, it suffices to auto-login, with a simple password used for the user account.

Setup will go through a process of retrieving files, installing files, and configuring system settings.

Once it is complete, you can click “Restart Now” to boot into a fresh Ubuntu Linux install. For post-installation, in the case of a simple homelab, it is sufficient to click through the default options presented.
