I disagree. I think it is more utilitarian. Knowing a little about a lot of things makes a person more capable of dealing with anything that comes at them. Consider the generations of people who could not simply call a plumber or go down the street to mcdonalds. Ancient people had to be everything or at least most things. Specialization isn’t something that has always been around and when it was around it was very rare. That was up until about the industrial revolution time.
