72 Hours

The last time he saw her was when he dropped her home 3 days back. They had gone for dinner and had spent some time at the movies. They watched “Before Sunrise” one of the latest and currently their favorite movie. It appealed to them because of those few moments which the couple cherished after which they would most likely never see each other. He thought he could never stay away for so long. These three days had been hard enough for him to bear. He remembered that when the cab had pulled outside her building. He had longed to hold her hand and not let go. All he could do was instead look and imprint the image of her stunning face onto his memory. Her deep brown eyes which looked at him longingly, telling him many things which he lived to hear. That day he took with him her enchanting smile, the sense of her desire for him and the memory of her standing at the footpath outside her building looking at him go.

They waited those three days without a call or text to each other. Now a days no one knew what it felt like to miss someone they love so much without having any means of communication. They were always connected because they thought of each other the whole days and wondered what the other one must be doing at a particular time. They worked, ate and slept and simultaneously missed and thought about each other. Each hour passed and that one glance which they both had of each other from their last meet materialized into a living figment of their imagination. The clock went on with it’s rhythmic ticking. They perished together, their souls and bodies pining to meet and together they cherished the strength of the love which had bound them in shackles which they gladly wore. He would soon have her in his arms he thought. Just a little while longer he said to himself as he watched the sun set. He was submerged in her love the way the sun set into the depths of the ocean.

He waited for her at the park. He had brought some bread from the entrance to feed the ducks. He looked down into the pond and saw the ducks swimming together. The ripples made by them in the water as they swam made him think of her. He wished she would come sooner. She saw him with his back toward her. She instantly knew it was him. He always waited for her there and watched the ducks whilst waiting for her. Her heart started to beat rapidly. It always did when she was with him. She quickened her pace and started to walk toward him. She thought of the smile on his face and the love in his eyes when he would see her. His eyes saw nothing beyond her and his mind never thought of anyone else besides her. Her lips were dying to meet his.

He felt a hand on his shoulder. He turned around and saw the face in whose thoughts he had spent the last three days. He pulled her close and kissed her hard and long. He moved his lips along the contour of her face and slowly leaned back and looked at her. Into her eyes, which held the the most precious thing for him on this planet. LOVE.

72 hours of love and yearning to be together. The mirrors to their hearts reflected in each of their eyes. 72 hours had finally ended.
