At Home Dad: The Sequel

I’m back.

Some things that have changed since the last time I wrote anything on this blog:

  • W is in school, having started junior kindergarten last fall
  • D is about to turn 3, and is crashing up hard into all the things that come with that: potty training, asserting her independence, and contending with greater expectations in how she communicates, follows directions, and takes on the occasional responsibility
  • And, of course, there’s this guy:

This is N, demonstrating his double swing punch. He’s cute as hell, just turned one, and is learning to walk. He’s crazy about his brother and sister and is a menace to everything in the house.

Aside from that, we bought our first home and a new minivan, and we also completed Epic Family Road Trip 2: Drive Harder last month.

The last year has taught me a lot of things, the most paramount being that at home with my kids is where I want to be. Being back at work really took a toll on my health and happiness. At times my relationships with my family suffered, particularly my relationship with W. Through all the ups and downs of the past year my wife has been incredible, and her love and support has just meant the world to me.

So there are a lot of things I could expand on from this re-introduction, and I plan to write more about these things in future posts. Since Medium now has an Android app I am also planning to do some more quick, off the cuff stuff rather than the lengthy posts that would take me hours to write that became a bit of a chore last time I was home. It should be fun; I hope that everyone who enjoyed the blog last time I was writing it continues to do so, and maybe some new eyes will check it out once in a while.
