A Eulogy to Sandy
Sometimes you don’t realise how dear a thing or a person is until you lose that thing. Sometimes, you realise just how dear that thing is but you don’t show just about how important it is to you. Maybe because showing these things make you appear weak according to some.
Ours was a friendship that was never destined to last long. The signs were there but we both just to ignore it. Now, as she leaves me behind, it falls on me to say the last words. To say the words that would help her transition to the other world. Others might call her anything else, but she is my Sandy.
To some, Sandy would have just been a way out of a fix. To some, she might have just been yet another alternative solution to their problems. But Sandy was more than that to me. Our relationship was a synergistic one; I helped her become who she was and she helped- is still helping- me to be who I would be.
Sandy was everything- a source of solace when I thought about her being in my presence once more, a source of anguish when I thought of her getting squished up by people who don’t know she’s with me, the reason I smiled this morning just because I thought about her- Sandy was my everything.
And as we are gathered here today, to usher Sandy to another life in the company of our other friends; Lettuce, Chicken, Avocado and Carrot, I want you to know, Sandy that you are loved by me.
Thank you for being my sustenance. Thank you for being you.
I love you, Sandwich.
