The First Trailer for Good Omens Has Arrived

Fans of Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett can breathe a small sigh of relief. The first trailer for Good Omens has arrived, and it’s looking rather good. The TV adaptation of the 1990 fantasy novel is a six part series being made for Amazon Originals. And it features Michael Sheen as the angel Aziraphale and David Tennant as the demon Crowley. As the pair have become friends over the course of 6,000 years, they now find themselves teaming up to avoid Armageddon.

Gaiman and Pratchett had planned to turn the Good Omens novel into a film, and then a TV series until the death of Terry Pratchett in 2015. Before his death, Pratchett wrote to Neil Gaiman urging him to continue working towards a television adaptation. And now it will be arriving via Amazon Prime in 2019.

If you’re reading Disposable Media, the odds are that you’re somewhat familiar with the works of Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman. And if not, you should be.

Good Omens: The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch was originally published in 1990 as an idea of both authors to collaborate. Which involved posting floppy disks to each other along with regular phone calls. A sequel was proposed but faded after Gaiman had moved to the United States. And from 2002–2013 a film was slated to be directed by Terry Gilliam based on a completed script, but the initial funding for production was never achieved.

A radio adaptation featuring Mark Heap and Peter Serafinowicz was broadcast by the BBC in April 2015, including cameos from Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett. And the BBC is also producing the Amazon series in collaboration with Neil Gaiman’s The Black Corporation, and Narrativia, which is the production company created by Pratchett and now headed by his daughter Rhianna. Which means the series will appear on BBC Two at some point after the Amazon release.

The Good Omens TV series is directed by Douglas Mackinnon, and will also feature Jon Hamm, Anna Maxwell Martin, Josie Lawrence, Adria Arjona, Michael McKean, Jack Whitehall, Miranda Richardson and Nick Offerman.
