The worry here is that unlike various other endangered fish, the Bluefin Tuna is actually delicious as hell. Shark fin soup doesn’t taste like much, and all those phallic tiger and bear items don’t really hold much appeal outside of mysticism, but Otoro served at an Omakase is undeniably delicious.

The need is still there, I think the only way to stop this madness is to stop the chefs themselves, as the article suggests. But if there’s one thing the Japanese do well, it’s persevere in the face of overwhelming adversity in the defense of frivolous pursuits.
