HM King Hamad Attends “North Thunder” Military Exercise in Saudi Arabia

His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa attended the “North Thunder” military show, at an invitation by Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud.

Ground, air and naval forces from 20 Arab and Islamic countries, including Bahrain, as well as the Peninsula Shield Forces took part in the major Saudi-led mobilization exercise. The event is deemed one of the largest military drills in the world to boost combat competence and readiness to carry out joint missions by the participating forces in order to preserve regional security and ward off challenges and terrorist organisations.

HM the King, the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, Arab and Islamic leaders and senior commanders of the participating forces watched the military show held in King Khalid Military City in Hafar Al Batin in Saudi Arabia.

HM the King expressed Bahrain’s pride in its participation in the major event, and emphasized the historic relations between Bahrain and Saudi Arabia, and the solidarity between GCC countries, as well as Arab, Islamic and friendly nations.

The exercise underlines the importance of joint action to protect people in the GCC, Arab and Islamic countries and boost readiness to confront terrorist organisations. Saudi Arabia’s high international standing and mutual respect encourage Bahrain to stand with its neighbors and allies in military and humanitarian missions. Both are committed to working together to foster regional and global peace and security. The Kingdom’s Bahrain Defense Force (BDF) continues to participate in the Saudi-led Arab alliance to support legitimacy in Yemen and ensure security and prosperity for the Yemeni people.

HM King Hamad congratulated the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, the leaders of the participating countries and the officials in charge on the major success of the drill. He also congratulated the Saudi troops and their counterparts from the participating countries on the outstanding achievement, wishing all further success.

In a statement, Bahrain’s Shura council reiterated the Kingdom of Bahrain’s permanent standing with all peacekeeping and international security efforts that will also protect the Arab and Islamic nations capabilities.

“At a time we are highly appreciative of the Kingdom’s participation in this joint Arab and Islamic cooperation aimed to preserve the nation’s capabilities, we highly laud the participation of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad bin Isa, Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Prime Minister, BDF in the maneuvers alongside with sisterly and friendly armed forces in perfect performance in line with the lofty goals aspired by the region’s leaders and peace-loving countries,” the Council stated. The Council considered the participation of the Kingdom’s brave soldiers in support of the right, justice and humanitary causes and a promise to tackle any threat to national security and stability.
