Minister of Electricity and Water Affairs Dr. Abdulhussain Mirza has said the Sustainable Energy Unit (SEU) has been set up to focus on utilization and investment in renewable energy, such as solar and wind energy as well as energy conservation.

He said the unit, in collaboration with the United Nations Development Program, has been approved by a Council of Ministers’ resolution. He indicated that expert consultants were at hand to prepare a work plan, which was presented to higher authorities. An action plan for energy efficiency (NEEAP) was then set up for the implementation of the renewable energy programme (NREAP).

The unit is modeled on the successful implementation of the program in neighboring countries in the region with the emphasis of exploiting available renewable energy. Dr. Mirza confirmed that in Bahrain, the focus will be on solar and wind energy in addition to generating energy from waste. He also specified that the SEU welcomed and encourages investments and cooperation in renewable energy
