College Does NOT Lead To Success

Hide your kids, hide your wife and hide your husband cuz’ they tricking errbody out there.

College does not lead to success. You mean to tell me that you think it’s going to give you instant success once you graduate? Ha. I wish that were true, but it’s not. I’m going to say it one more time in case you missed it.

COLLEGE DOES NOT LEAD TO SUCCESS.

You pay thousands of dollars every year. For what? I’ll tell you what. For a magical piece of paper called a “diploma,” which is suppose to show the people who are smart enough to pass college and ready to enter the workforce. But there’s something they trick you about. Something that could change your perspective on college. That “diploma” that you received, does not automatically guarantee you a job.

Getting a “diploma” is simply another step towards getting a job. It isn’t the end-all be-all. And let’s pretend that for some reason you get interviewed and hired for a job. You are in for another surprise. Something else they were tricking you about. You’re most likely not qualified for the job.

A survey by the Workforce Solutions Group at St. Louis Community College found that more than 60 percent of employers said applicants lack “communication and interpersonal skills” — an increase of about 10 percentage points in just two years.

You could have substitutes all that time you were in class, and walked over to the library. You could have been reading books the entire time you were in class. You could have been absorbing knowledge much faster than you would have been by sitting in class.

And let’s say that books are not your thing?

Well, then how about you walk over to a computer or laptop and try this interesting thing called the Internet. I don’t know if you know this or not, but the Internet has an extensive amount of information. You can learn about anything you would like.

Imagine spending an hour and a half minutes reading a book versus an hour and a half getting lectured in a classroom. You will retain greater amounts of knowledge by reading the book for an hour and a half.

Now, I know college is necessary for technical degrees in fields such as engineering, health, etc.

But my argument is for those who are NOT pursuing a technical degree. Mostly business students. You can start your own business now-a-days without a “diploma”. You can start your own business without even going to college.

Let me give you a couple examples.

There probably aren’t too many of you who aren’t familiar with the story of Steve Jobs, co-founder of Apple. Although he did graduate from Homestead High School in 1972, he ended up dropping out of Reed College, an education his parents could barely afford.
At the time of his death in 2011, Jobs’ net worth was $11 billion. Not bad for a college dropout.
Richard Branson’s net worth is said to be roughly $4.9 billion. Founder of Virgin Atlantic Airways, Virgin Records, Virgin Mobile and other Virgin brands, Branson never completed high school, and dropped out at 16 years of age. Not only that, but he was dyslexic and had poor academic performance.

These two examples are about two individuals who never attended or graduated college, and they still ended up becoming extremely successful.

If they can do it than you can do it also. You can live a successful life without attending college. We live at a point in time when “diplomas” don’t mean as much as we’ve been taught to believe.

I am by no means encouraging anybody to drop out of college. I’m simply encouraging you to rethink your education, and trying to save you thousands of dollars every year.
