How To Achieve World Peace

What is the meaning of life?

That is the million dollar question. Many people ask it but few truly know the answer. I beleive I have an interesting perspective on this question so I’m going to attempt to answer it.

To answer this question you must first answer another question. You must be able to answer “Who am I?”. It is common for people to try and understand something much larger than themselves, but it is necessary to know who you are before you begin questioning the meaning of life.

Here are 14 ways to reveal who you really are:

  1. Hardships reveal who you really are.
  2. How you act when you’re upset.
  3. How you treat those who can do nothing for you.
  4. Who you are when no one is looking.
  5. The types of relationships you pursue.
  6. How often you admit your own mistakes and failures.
  7. How you treat people in need.
  8. What you read, listen to and get entertained by reveals who you really are.
  9. The ways you approach your greatest failures.
  10. What you find comforting reveals who you really are.
  11. How you spend your money.
  12. How you speak of others behind their backs.
  13. The choices you make are revealing of who you really are.
  14. How you argue.

Only after going through this list and really digging deep can you reveal who you truly are as a person. It can be both eye-opening and intimidating at the same time. You get the opportunity to learn what is true to your values and what you have acquired from societal norms. Learning about oneself is a remarkable journey that too few people experience.

Individuals often find it beneficial to look in a mirror and see their reflection to determine who they really are. This is a great technique in learning about oneself. You get the opportunity to rid all distractions and have a serious conversation with your conscious and subconscious mind. You will learn what you are good and bad at, what you favor and disfavor, and who you should and shouldn’t associate yourself with to be successful.

After looking in the mirror and getting a closer look at who you are, then you can change your focus to something else. You can redirect your focus away from the mirror and begin focusing your attention towards the window, which is where you can uncover the meaning of life. You see, outside the window are other human beings similar to yourself. So once you have figured out who you really are, then you can begin to help the people outside the window find out who they are. If you can reach this level of higher thinking — you will have discovered something powerful. Imagine if everybody figured out their lives and then made a conscious effort to help others. With that type of thinking, I believe we can achieve world peace.

According to Psychology Today,

“To achieve world peace — to create a world in which war ceases to break out — seems impossible because of the sheer number of people who haven’t yet mastered themselves, who haven’t tamed their ambition to raise themselves up at the expense of others, and who haven’t learned to start from today onward, letting past wrongs committed by both sides remain in the past. In short, it seems an impossible dream because we’re in desperately short supply of human beings who are experts at living.”

Takeaway

There’s no question that achieving world peace is in high demand. The problem is that we only have a limited supply of individuals who are willing to help turn this dream into a reality. The key is to educate and encourage individuals to become “experts at living”. If you were to ask me “What is the meaning of life?”, I would answer by telling you the meaning of life is to develop self-awareness and then utilize that conscious knowledge to help others figure out who they truly are as human beings. And if you were to ask me “How do we achieve world peace?”, I would reply with the same answer. In the end, I believe the answers to both questions are identical.
