Why people become unhappy.

I saw a post the other day of someone naming every single thing in their life that made them unhappy. Now in a way I guess writing things down helps some people deal with these things better, but on the other hand it could make you look and think ‘wow… what a crappy life’ and it can get you down even more.

It made me think, why do people become so unhappy? Why did this person list everything wrong in their life? Did it help them? Did they come up with solutions?

So I thought instead of writing about the things that made me unhappy, I’d do a general overview on the things that can make a person feel down, and ways to improve them.

Taking everything personally.

Not everyone is going to like you, and you’re not going to like everyone. No one else’s opinion matters, the only person you should be looking out for is you. Comments are irrelevant, get out of bed everyday, look in the mirror and tell yourself how amazing you are. Because you are.

Basing your decisions around other people.

Again, the only person that matters is you. Live your life the way you want to, if you constantly try and make others happy, you’ll slip down into a dark place you feel you can’t get out of. Take care of number 1.

Constantly thinking about bad memories.

We all do it.. but the only way out of this is to put it in the past. Take your time to come to grips with the fact those things did happen, some of them shaped you to be the person you are today, the past is the past, everyone has one and eventually you’ll learn to suppress the memories and make happier ones stick instead.

Comparing yourself to others.

No 2 people are the same, you are you, and you are amazing.

Over analyse everything.

These days the opportunities we get may not come around again. Stop thinking and start doing. You’re only talking yourself out of things because you have nothing else to do. And in situations you’re not sure on, stop thinking about the things that aren’t important and focus on what is.

Setting expectations ridiculously high.

I’ve learnt you should never expect any more than average, if whatever it is you’re doing fails, then you won’t be disappointed, and if whatever you’re doing is a success, it brings you genuine surprise and happiness.

And finally…

Feeling like there is no way out.

Every dead end has a hidden exit, you just have to have the patience to find it.

No one should ever spend their life feeling unhappy, or like there is never a way out of things, when truth is there is a solution for everything, you just have to sit back and wait for your turn, and happiness will find you.

Find a meaning in just living.
