VCU Health System’s Respiratory Care Services is seeking a full time Respiratory Therapist 1 to provide safe and effective respiratory care as an advanced practitioner for adolescent, adult and geriatric patients. To serve as acting supervisor (team leader) in the absence of a shift supervisor and to serve as a respiratory care resource for hospital staff and students.
Non-ordered ventilator parameters, i.e., peak flow, flow trajectory. Suctioning patients as required; selection of appropriate ventilators for patients; consulting with physicians and nurses regarding the appropriateness of the patient care plan; modifying staff assignments while an acting supervisor; call-in additional staff, when appropriate while an acting supervisor; and maintaining work areas in a clean and well stocked manner.
Renting additional equipment as needed.
Approves overtime, work schedule changes and use of benefit time when functioning as acting supervisor.
Every other weekend and shift rotation on occasion.
Must be a graduate from an accredited Advanced Practitioner Respiratory Care Program.
Must be licensed (or license eligible) by the Commonwealth of Virginia as a Respiratory Care Practitioner. Certification or registry from the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) as a Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) or a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT).*
Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) required. Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) required for Respiratory Therapists practicing in a Pediatric and/or Neonatal setting
New graduates (from an accredited Advanced Practitioner Respiratory Care Program) to 1 year of work experience functioning as a Respiratory Therapist.
*On or after 01/01/2015, new hires must be a current RRT.
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
One year working in a critical care environment.
