This knife was invented in the late years of the fifteenth century but it is quite famous until now and people buy it and even use for self-defense as well for utility purposes. Stiletto Italian knife has always been famous as a street weapon and was mostly carried by the bad guys i.e. gamblers and murderers. Stiletto knives have a distinguishable and unique design but numerous changes have been made in their structure and design over the years but that didn’t affect the essential features of a stiletto knife.

A Brief Introduction to Stiletto Knife

The Stiletto knife is most commonly known as an Italian blade and is known for sleek and slender design. It is a very smart knife and is usually short in length which a slim blade that ends up on a pointed tip. The blade is however very sharp and works wonders as well. This is why it is known to be very effective and has a bloody history with murderers and gamblers. The stiletto knife differentiates itself from other knives with its unique features. Its unique features include its sharp blade, pointed tip, sleek and slim built and a comfortable grip. This knife finds its best use in stabbing and thrusting because of its design and construction.

Let us have a detailed look at why stiletto knives are considered to be effective for thrusting and stabbing. As we know that the thin and narrow blade of this knife ends up on a pointed tip which makes this knife slender and slim. The narrow blade and the pointed tip are in fact responsible for its effectiveness in stabbing because these features help in minimizing the force of friction during stabbing which consequently increases the penetrating capacity of the knife and allows the blade go much deeper into the target.

The stiletto knife is also known as an upgraded version of a dagger and is known to be evolved from them. Why do people say that? It is because the design of this knife matches with that of a dagger. The sharp blade and pointed edge are similar to the dagger and both are used effectively for stabbing and thrusting. However, there is one major difference between a dagger and a Stiletto Italian knife as well. The daggers feature double-edged blades whereas stiletto knives have single edge blades. Stiletto knives may be quite effective for thrusting and stabbing but they are not considered good for slicing things or cutting or slashing.

History of a Stiletto Knife

The word Stiletto has originated from the Latin word “Stilus”. In Latin, anything that was thin and designed like a needle is known as Stilus. A stiletto knife as we discussed above is said to be originated from a dagger and because of its design, it is known to be effective for thrusting and stabbing. This is also the reason that these knives were quite famous in the Medieval era where the soldiers or knights used to kill their enemies by stabbing them with stiletto knives which were able to get through the hard full body armors where swords couldn’t go. Nowadays, stiletto pocket knives are also available to us but back then, in the earlier times, they only come as fixed blade knives. The blade had the same narrow and slender design, however, the cross sections of stiletto knives were mostly diamond, square, round or triangular in shape.

Stiletto knives come in very beautiful designs and shape nowadays and are available at very affordable rates. You can use them as self-defense weapons and as utility knives too. Would you like to have a stiletto knife for yourself?
