The chaos at Infosys.

In India, there is often a tussle between the mother-in-law and new brides coming into the home. The mother-in-laws often have personal boundary issues and find it hard to give up their baby.

The mother-in-law daughter-in-law tussle is the core of Indian TV and of Indian boardrooms.

NRN is acting like that possessive mother-in-law. While he cofounded the company, he is no longer the CEO or Chairman of the board. He doesn’t own majority of the equity. He has to be a guiding force and not be a middling force second-guessing everything the “outsider” does.

Vishal Sikka, by most accounts, has been a good CEO. He brought Infosys back to relevance and has got both the profits and margins soaring in tough economic climate. But, silly gossiping has ended his tenure.

Infosys is a quintessential Indian joint family with the older generation refusing to give into the new.
