Valjevska Pivara, a brewery from the western Serbian town of Valjevo, is exporting beer to the United States under the name “Tesla Spirit”.

As media outlets across the region reported, the US importer, Love Imports, has a distribution network that includes 25 US states. It is cooperating with several other Serbian brands.

The “Tesla Spirit” brand has been registered in the US and is sold under that name in the US, while in Serbia and in the region, the name of the beer stays the same — Valjevsko.

The first contingent of beer was sent to the US at the end of June.

Tesla, an ethnic Serb, was born in the village of Smiljan, in Croatia.

After completing electrical engineering studies at the Austrian Polytechnic in Graz, he moved to Hungary where he worked for the National Telephone Company and then to the US where he established his own company, Tesla Electric Light & Manufacturing.

He died in January 1943 in New York, aged 87.
