View of The Holy Ganges, Haridwar, India

Most of us have been hearing this quote from early days ‘Experience is the greatest authority’. Lately I was reflecting on the variety of experiences I have had at different stages and phases of life and was feeling a sense of natural gratitude towards life for having provided me with these.

One question that came to my mind was Hasn’t my experiences with the same people, things, organizations changed over the last few years/ months’? and it was an obvious yes for an answer. Things that seemed very exciting at one point did not seem to be that exciting anymore. Things & people (some of the very senior yogis I was in regular touch with) that seemed to transport me into that blissful ‘beyond time & space’ sort of an experience, did not seem to do so any longer. …

The Holy Ganges in Shivpuri (Rishikesh), India

Our very first morning at Rishikesh began with a trip to the holy Ganges. We decided to walk down to the banks of the river. The holy ganges flowing with all its exuberance and might is an unforgettable sight.

rocky beaches of shivpuri

The entire himalayan valley in green blue colour with green mountains, blue & white waters kissed on the horizons by clear blue skies — this place indeed instantly recharged our spirits ! The air of ancient culture, a feel of the more modern version of yogis migrated from the west & the more traditional indian saints, the freshness & alive energy of the air, the smell of monsoon mud, the murmuring sound of the holy ganges as she flows with all her might, the sight of the milky white waters as they splash against the stones/rocky beaches — Rishikesh truly is the abode of Mother nature in her very pristine form. …

In the age of ‘cutting edge’ technology & ‘cut throat’ competition, almost everyone be it individuals or organizations are caught up in the race to find their competitive edge. The flip side of globalization & the ever expanding urban culture has made this paradox a reality that we live in a digitally integrated world, and yet are isolated.

Though contemporary business practices like inclusive leadership & the teal model, flat structured organizations are beginning to create an impact in influencing rigid mindsets & shifting global consciousness, a vast majority still continue to find Inspirational leadership, a challenge. …

“In the next century, planet earth will don an electronic skin. It will use the internet as a scaffold to support and transmit its sensations.” — Neil Gross — 1999

Looks like this is exactly where we are headed to. Imagine if all the objects in our room just came alive and started communicating with each other. If they could all sense, feel, track and monitor data in all forms, translate data into useful intelligence and transmit it to machines on the ground, enabling mobile, real — time responses, then things that we had once only wildly imagined like using our phones to direct our coffee maker to make a cup of freshly ground coffee while we still lay in bed, would become a reality. And soon our homes would become smart homes, our cars smart cars, our bridges smart bridges and so on…Yes, indeed we are on the threshold of transiting into a smart, integrated world. This is infact no longer mere imagination but already an existing reality that has begun to take shape. …

(Our Bike trip to Himalayas)

As a child, I was always fascinated by bikes. The idea of riding backseat @ a speed of 120 km/hr would always excite me. But as I grew up, somehow the opportunity never came, most of my long distance travels would be through the more traditional means of transport.

Just a few days before we actually set out to Rishikesh, suddenly the idea of going by bike occured to us. The plan was to ride all the way down from Gurgaon to the Himalayan valley and back. My love for adventure told me this is going to be fun. …

Have you ever found yourself in confusion, thinking & analyzing what to do and what not, pondering over the choices that seem to present themselves in front of you?

I guess we all go through phases in life when life presents us with situations where we begin to wonder what should I do or what should I choose. And the clever mind traps us in a never ending internal dialogue with the self where we are constantly analyzing and re analyzing options, comparing them to our own past experiences, memories of stories we have heard from elders, comparing them to our long held desires to see if they will be fulfilled, considering carefully to see if our so called ‘chosen action’ will give us the necessary security that we have been craving, be it financial or emotional. We then judge our choices as right and wrong and then make the so called ‘ right’ choice….LOL …

All of us have felt betrayed at some point in our lives by a close one be it a partner, friend, colleague, child, parent, sibling etc. We are all familiar with the painful ‘sting’ in the heart that betrayal causes. Is there a soothing balm for the unbearable sting? Or is there a preventive tablet to avoid being betrayed? If they were available we would all jump up and pick up one for ourselves and treasure it.But alas ! it sounds like the most difficult thing to do — to build the bridge of trust.

In most intimate relationships the word trust is dubious. When we say ‘ I trust you truly’, it usually means ‘ I expect you to be the way I want you to be and hope that you will live up to my expectations.’ Though the statement may trigger mixed reactions amongst us, not many will be able to deny its truth. …

One of the ancient philosophies that makes life look like mathematics, is the philosophy of Karma which states that every action has an equal and opposite reaction or as you sow, so shall you reap or what goes around, comes around. While we are not questioning the philosophy itself, the purpose of this article is to question ourselves deeply about our understanding of the karmic theory.

Let’s consider the following examples of how this theory is understood and applied in our lives and if you feel intrigued then do not hesitate to question yourself. If I am attached to a certain outcome that I want in my life and am trying to act in a way that would ensure those results then I end up being fearful and fear becomes the guiding force for my actions. For Eg: ‘ I better do this so that I will get this’. Soon the compulsion to do the ‘right’ things leaves us feeling very anxious and stressed. The question is ‘ Am I being my genuine self? Or is it my fearful self?’ …

Land of deities — Shimla, Himachal Pradesh

We were both going through a transient phase in our lives where we had quit the old way of living and working driven by the ego and found ourselves on the threshold of embracing a new story in which deep connections with people, doing things we were really passionate about, true service to humanity, embracing the unknown and living in the present mattered the most.

Our unplanned trip to Shimla gave us an experience of all of the above as we both are passionate about travel. Without having any concrete plans, we just trusted our innermost feelings and backpacked for a trip to shimla. We just took a local state transport bus from Gurgaon headed for shimla. …

One of the many Indian states where people do not speak the national language, yet communicate with love and warmth, Imphal the capital city of Manipur surely stands out offering the traveller an experience of a different side of India. Visiting Imphal on two different occasions made me feel as though I have a deep connection with the place. The culture, people, language, food all seemed to get more familiar on my second trip to the tiny valley.
